We’re introducing the Smash Bros Font! Since 1999, Nintendo has published fighting video games called Smash Bros. Launched initially only in Japan, the service is now available worldwide. Due to the popularity of the game, the developers decided to launch it on the international market. The movie was also a tremendous success around the world.
Have you ever wondered where text is used in Super Smash Bros or where it comes from? You have probably noticed that some characters have unique fonts. When you see the text above the character’s head, it’s called their name. But when instructions are talking to you on screen, you might notice they have a different font. Three fonts are used for this purpose: DOLPHIN (Medium), MARIO (Medium), and MEGAMAN (Low). Fonts of each series are seldom used elsewhere in the game except for the Mario font type of font (Mario, DK, Yoshi).
As you can see, the fonts used for Smash Bros’ logo are essentially from two different font families. Words such as “Smash” and “Super Bros” are written with Kabel Bold and Bodega Sans Light, respectively. These font families both have cool ligatures, sexy numerals, as well as super cool textures.
Bodega sans light was designed by Greg Thompson, and Kabel bold was designed by Rudolf Koch. Its peculiarities make it an excellent option for designers who wish to develop their campaigns around that. As you explore the letter map images we include here; you will get a good sense of what sans serif fonts are like and experience what high-quality legibility is like.
It can be used to create artistic emblems, printing directions in the fabric industry, wedding or invitation cards, books covers, quotes, layouts, and t-shirt designs. Additionally, the title of a poster movie or banner can be sketched.
