Mr. Galdino Otten has designed a very interesting font — Old Press font. The font is inspired by old Italian printing and it looks gorgeous. Out of curiosity, I’ve searched the Internet to find some examples where this typeface is used. And even though I knew the movie Lawless would surely use unique typography, I was not prepared for what I found. Indeed, Lawless’s movie is an example of using this typeface in an original way.
The old press font is delivered with some of the unique sets of characters which are numerals, punctuation, symbols, and so on. The typeface comes along with text styles and watermark presets. It is equipped with variant alternates which means that it can be easily used for both headlines or text blocks. But obviously, you can use it at your own comfort. It is mostly used for vintage and retro designs, logos, badges, labels, books covers, headlines, and much more.
Since the designer has done a great job especially with the capitals which have awesome texture on them. The lower case letters do not have any texture because that is the style of this font. The detail and texture make this is more complicated because it is more challenging to draw upper case letters than it is to design lower case characters. Mr. Galdino Otten even made some elements on ‘e’ just to make it appear as a shadow that covers half of the ‘e’ shape itself. It is available for free download. Despite the free, this font is able to adapt itself according to your needs and style.
Old-press font typesetting has been around for a long time and it is a testament to their popularity that there are still thousands of websites that employ them today. Another reason old-press-fonts are so popular stems from the fact that they are very legible. In fact, many older people have trouble reading text on computer screens and so it is nice to have a typeface that is very clear and crisp.
All in all, the old-press typeface has stood the test of time. It is practical, it is clear, it is legible and it has a pleasing aesthetic quality to it. In fact, when combined with a clean design, it can really add to the appeal of a website.
