Bembo is a serif typeface created by the British branch of the Monotype Corporation in 1928-9 and most commonly used for body text. The design is based on types cut by Francesco Griffo in 1495 for Venetian printer Aldus Manutius, sometimes generically called the “Aldine roman”. The Bembo name is a reference to an early model of this group of types, made in 1496 by Pietro Bembo (1470–1547).

It was the first typeface to be based on the humanist writing style of the time, which can be seen in its regular and delicate features.
