Arsenal is a sans serif font that features a semi-grotesque shape with traditional forms. It has been designed for both body text and professional visual communication by the designer.

The Arsenal family was initially created in 1929-30 by Alexander Tarbeev for the Let Pezet type foundry in Moscow. The typeface design is very similar to that of Lissitzky’s face from 1927, called Proun. Both are based on rectilinear shapes and avoid any diagonal or round elements. Proun, however, resembles more a calligraphic hand as it contains curves between thick and thin strokes. The straight lines, sharp corners, perfectly even corners, and ideally even widths give Arsenal a distinctive mechanical look. We have decided to adapt the original design and make it multilingual – the new family consists of 5 weights plus matching italics. As the latest font in our collection, it is also our first one to contain Cyrillic characters (in addition to Latin). In all styles, we have adjusted some letterforms: ascender/descender heights were changed to enhance legibility (particularly ‘k,’ ‘p’ and ‘q’) and to add some optical balance.

Imagine how quickly this font family gained popularity in the type design industry. In this way, the vast majority of designers working along with that after 2011 are working in this way.

While the Italic and Bold weights contain 739 glyphs, therefore, it becomes a complete package for using it in large and important tasks.
